Muhammad Ali

Ali in Atlanta

Cassius Clay won the light-heavyweight gold medal at the 1960 Olympics in Rome. Disgusted by racism at home (and disillusioned that the gold was "rubbing off," exposing silver below), he is said to have dropped the medal into the Ohio River.

As Muhammad Ali, he returned to the Olympics as the lighter of the torch in 1996 in Atlanta. He was also presented with a "replacement" gold medal.
